Marvel’s Spider-Man shows a more experienced Peter Parker than we usually see, as he’s been Spider-Man for around 8 years already at this point. Still, while he may have mastered his fighting skills, Peter still struggles to balance his personal life and his life as a crime-fighter. The book leads directly into the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man, first introducing Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, as he returns to New York, only this time he’s built himself a pretty sturdy reputation as an altruistic entrepreneur and philanthropist. You are only allowed to use Web Wings and Wind Tunnels, nothing else (can’t use Web Swings with and can’t speed up with Web Pulls etc). The only villains we get are Kraven, Venom, Sandman, The Lizard, and Mysterio (kind of). They set up The Chameleon and Carnage but they don’t actually do anything. And that’s not even mentioning side characters like Silver Sable who easily could’ve returned in some capacity.

The part that feels like it actually needed a radical rethinking is the open world of New York City, which has been made bigger but not better, with an exhausting checklist of mostly repetitious side activities. But it’s safe to call this another thrilling Spider-Man adventure that delivers Insomniac’s best tale yet, and despite its open world falling short, it’s a reliably fun superhero power trip. Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other and the ones they love, from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat. Explore an expansive Marvel’s New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities and high-tech gear.

It’s also expanding to include some of the boroughs that were absent before, and the water around the city will play a larger role. This a dedicated section for the small number of suits that are specifically tied to and/or unlocked within the main story, and therefore are inherently spoilers for certain plot developments or reveals. Gameplay-wise, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is very similar to the series’ previous installments. The fundamental difference is that this time both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are playable. The playable character changes during certain plot points, for example, if one of them isn’t able to arrive somewhere in time or when they need to split up. NK88 of adventure is set to pit both Peter and Miles against a “new Super Villain whose powers they [don]t understand.” That villain being The Hood.

Miles overcomes his anger towards Li and helps him escape, directing him to find Peter. Once Li informs him of Miles’ location, Peter arrives to storm Kraven’s fortress in an effort to rescue him and nearly kills Kraven before Miles intervenes, defeating the corrupted Peter and convincing him to remove the symbiote. Peter, Mary Jane, and Harry visit Coney Island to reconnect; while there, the Hunters attack the park to capture a reformed Tombstone. While Peter rescues civilians, he is assisted by a super-powered Harry, who learns about Peter’s double life.

There are a lot of moves and attacks to learn in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and they can all be found in-game under the Moves List. This list will expand as you unlock new abilities for both Peter and Miles. Wind Tunnels look like gusts of wind and turn into “green rings” when flying nearby.

According to a massive leak in 2023, the studio’s roadmap revealed that it was aiming to release Marvel’s Wolverine in 2026, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 in 2028. Although there was an almost four-year gap between the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4 and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans won’t have to wait as long. Insomniac confirmed back in October 2024 that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be coming to PC on January 30, 2025. Spider-Man 3 is shaping up to be all about the Green Goblin and a returning Doc Ock.
